Jersey Hieracrhy

For the jerseys we sell here at Chuck’s Vintage Sports, there is a certain hierarchy we follow when classifying them.  Let’s share with you all what this is, terms and definitions to boot!

GAME USED JERSEYS*:  These are jerseys and uniforms actually worn by a player on game day.  Will exhibit use and wear and stains accrued over the course of a game.  These will be accompanied by proof of use, pictures, letters of authenticity by the player, team representative, or noted expert companies out there.   These can either be screen printed, heat pressed, or tackle twill sewn lettering and numbering.   Team, league, and manufacturer identification marks will appear on these jerseys.

GAME ISSUED JERSEYS:  These jerseys are cut to the exact specifications a certain player would wear during a game, and issued by their respective teams.  However, these uniforms were never worn by the player.   These can either be screen printed, heat pressed, or tackle twill sewn lettering and numbering.   Team, league, and manufacturer identification marks will appear on these jerseys.

TEAM ISSUED JERSEYS AND PRO CUT JERSEYS:  These are jerseys and uniforms issued by the team but never worn by any player.  These can comprise varying cuts, sizes, extra length, etc.  All made to game ready specification and quality materials.  Team, league, and manufacturer identification marks will appear on these jerseys.

RETAIL AUTHENTIC JERSEYS:  These are the mass market version of the jerseys worn on the playing field.  Authentic materials similar to what’s worn on the field are used, but are mass produced and are cut for the casual sports fan.  These began appearing in the 1980s and are prevalent today.  These can either be screen printed, heat pressed, or tackle twill sewn lettering and numbering.

EQT / SWINGMAN / REPLITHENTIC JERSEYS:  Another mass market jersey, using authentic styles, numbers and names are sewn on a single piece of tackle twill and then any other “layer” is printed on top of that.   These have a replica casual cut, but are a bit higher in quality.  These began appearing in the late 1990s and are the low cost alternative to Retail Authentic jerseys.

REPLICA JERSEYS:  These are mass market jerseys, street cut, screened logos and lettering.  No authentic materials used.  For the casual fan.

*Chuck’s Vintage Sports does not deal in Game Used Jerseys and Memorabilia.  We specialize in Pro Cut and Retail Authentic Jerseys from the late 1970s to the early 2000s.
